Making the Most of Your Day in the Annapolis Valley: Activities Before and After Your Hike
The Annapolis Valley is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be explored, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than by pairing a hike with some of the region’s unique offerings. Whether you’re joining One Star Hiking for a guided trek or setting out on your own, the Valley invites you to make the most of your day — and beyond.
Make time for a bite!
Before or after your hike, consider wandering through one of the many local farmers' markets. The Wolfville and Annapolis Royal Farmers’ Markets are two of the largest and most vibrant in the area, boasting a fantastic variety of vendors. You could easily spend hours browsing fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and handcrafted items. Supporting local farms and producers is not only rewarding but also gives you excellent pre- or post-hike fuel.
For those who appreciate a good meal or a cozy spot to relax, the Valley has an abundance of charming cafés, mom-and-pop restaurants, and lively pubs. Whether you’re craving a hearty meal or a quick coffee, these local establishments offer a true taste of the community and a welcoming atmosphere to recharge.
Take in the local history and culture!
History buffs will find the Valley especially rich in stories. One of the highlights is the Grand Pré National Historic Site, a place that features prominently in many of our hikes. After your walk, take some time to explore the grounds and learn about the Acadian heritage that shaped this land. You’ll also find galleries scattered across towns like Wolfville, Kentville, and Annapolis Royal, showcasing local art and culture. During harvest seasons, you can join in the fun of u-pick farms where fresh berries and apples are ripe for the picking, adding a hands-on experience to your visit.
And don’t forget the wine scene!
For those who want to indulge in the Valley’s renowned wine scene, visiting one of the many local wineries is a must. Spots like Benjamin Bridge, Lightfoot & Wolfville, or Luckett’s offer stunning views and excellent wines. If you’re up for a bit of adventure, hop on one of the double-decker wine buses for a guided tasting experience. Not into wine? The Valley’s beaches, such as Evangeline or Blomidon, provide beautiful outdoor escapes, and the Canning Lookoff offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Valley floor.
There’s something for everyone!
Whether you have a full day or just a few hours, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the Valley alongside your hike. We’re always happy to help visitors plan their visits, tailoring recommendations to suit your interests and schedule.
Many visitors already know about the Bay of Fundy’s world-famous tides and the wine industry, but the Valley offers so much more. Seasonal events, like the spectacular fall harvests, winter snow-covered trails, or even the spooky Valley Ghost Walks with Jerome the Gravekeeper, add unique layers to your experience. No matter the season, there’s always something happening.
